I apologize for not updating this letter for such a time. Work, life and society seem to move at such a fast pace these days that correspondence becomes limited.
Law Enforcement agencies across the country strive to improve the community they work in and improve the image and work ethic of law enforcement as a whole. The Brownwood Police Department is no different. The City of Brownwood and the police department administration also attempt to provide police officers with all the necessary equipment so that we can move toward these goals. It is our hope that with the latest technology and increased training we are able to maintain a safe community and improve all that we do.
As a nine year veteran of this department, I can?t help but feel a sense of pride when I see a Brownwood police vehicle roll by my house. I am proud of what we do, what we hope to do, and of my fellow officers. With this said, I feel that I must remind the community that we are human. We make the same mistakes as everyone else in society and we have the same fears and concerns. When it comes to this community, a majority of the police department is comprised of local people who have answered a calling to serve. We want to serve this community and continue to make Brownwood our home just as you have done for your families.
With the holiday season in full swing, the Police Department will be actively enforcing all the laws of this land. Foul weather is always a concern and traffic enforcement will continue to be at a high level so that the community, as a whole, is safer during these times. Please be cautious of traffic signs and signals. Be aware of your surroundings and use caution when driving by bicyclist and pedestrians. With everyone's efforts, this season can be merry and bright!
Ultimately, the security of this community is up to us all. As a citizen, if you encounter a suspicious situation or observe suspicious activity, report it to the police. If something is not right, talk to us about it; hopefully we can assist you properly. Be as vigilant in others security as you are in yours.
Conduct a self-check of your home for proper security measures. We, at the Brownwood Police Department, encourage you all to ensure that your home is properly marked with your street number visible from the street. Ensure that shrubs are trimmed from your home, porch lights are operational, window and door locks work, and that your children know how to phone 911 when an emergency arises. Perform family ?drills? so that your children know what to do in an emergency. Designate a meeting place outside the home in case you get separated because of a fire or other emergency. Work with us to ensure that Brownwood truly does feel like home.
I thank you for your time and I hope that the coming holidays find you safe and well.
Sincerely,
James Fuller
Past President
